Meet my (and my brother's) new Parakeets!

Today we got two birds. I named mine Reepicheep. Well after all, I have a dog with a name from the Chronicles of Naria (Dawntreader), so why not a bird?
My brother named his Spirit, because he's got a lot of spirit. Spirit was pecking my hand as I was placing him in the cage while Reep was as calm as could be while I was placing him in the cage.

Awwwww ... they're beautiful. How fun!

They're getting less nervous now. They're preening and even chirping more! After a couple or three of days, I will try to tame them. Right now they are afraid of hands.

This morning I noticed that they had eaten (seeds were dropped around the food dish) and they weren't just sticking to the main perches anymore. They are looking at themselves in the mirror, playing with the beads in front of it, and it looked like they even played with one of their toys.

I forgot to close the door when I went into the room this morning, so Cookie heard their chirping and came to investigate. She sniffed the cage and just watched the birds. They fascinate her.









I figured that some day I or my brother or even my mom might forget to close the door completely, and Cookie and Treader might get in. So, I feel that it's important that the birds are used to them so that they don't make any sudden moves and Cookie and/or Treader doesn't try to catch them. So, later on, I let Treader see them. They fascinate him as well, but he didn't look at them nearly as long as Cookie:
