I was just wondering if anyone has been to any major shows? The only dog show I have ever been to is the ugliest dog contest in my hometown lol! . I think showing dogs is really neat!

This is a great way to condition a Shephed to ready it for showing or just keeping the fat off. Looks kinda cruel as I would not do this, mine chase tennis balls. lol;;

Do you know if that is a dog treadmill??

I was looking into treadmill training Odie... you see I have been really ill the past couple months and my poor baby hasn't been getting enough exercise. I ended up cracking a rib coughing too so it is going to be a while before I can walk him again. He rarely pulls but all it takes is one time.
We have a people treadmill but everything I read had a negative take on using it... but it isn't a subject I am well versed on... so I was wondering if anyone here uses a treadmill, if they use a dog treadmill and if they have any advice. Thanks

I do not use a treadmill. But, I have heard that it should be at least 5 feet for a dog.
Never, ever leave it unattended. Your dog should be mature. If you still have a puppy I would'n't suggest it. Yes, I have been to some major dog shows. They are really cool,
the trainers, handlers and especially the dogs are awesome. I put Frito in a couple of shows and it was really fun. Totally political though, my opinion.

I have been to the Canadian National Speciality Show for GSDs as well as to Schutzhund shows as well. Been to all breed shows too. They are very good to network with other GSD people and build your contact base as well as show off what you have to offer too.

I'm assuming you are meaning Conformation shows?

Yes I have been to a couple of major shows and probably thousands of smaller conformation shows with the FCI, UKC, AKC and CKC (Canadian Kennel Club). I will be taking Rain to a UKC show in addition to showing a couple of my friends Iggies for her in February.

Oooh, I just now read this, Veracity ... did you show your friend's Iggies during February? How FUN! We just had the Rocky Mountain Cluster Shows here in the Denver area last week. Of course, they always show the Iggies at 8 a.m. or something horrible, but it is such fun.

Tell all!

Iggies or I.G.'s = Italian Greyhounds

Examples, albeit most definitely not show quality, can be found at:

Oh, wait ... lest anyone think I'm insulting someone's doggies by saying they are definitely NOT show quality, these are my very own little ones and I can assure you they are not show quality. Well ... Aten started out very promisingly but his ears didn't live up to the rest of him, unfortunately. Razz

I don't own a show dog right now, but I would like to in the future.
I've watched Westminster on ESPN, and that dog show that takes place on Thanksgiving day. I've never been to a show either. One day I want to! There was one not too ar from here a while ago, but we couldn't go to it.

I will be showing Snowy at UKC Premier in Kalamazoo next month. Her Sire is AWSC/WSCC/UKC GR CH and her Dam is AWSC/UKC CH. Hopefully she will follow her parents' footsteps....

Will do.
Snowy's half brother (one week younger than Snowy) just won Best Puppy (2 shows) in AWSC show in Indiana Sunday. He is her breeder's "pick of the litter" and I must admit he is gorgeous! Snowy will have to go against him next month.....

Thank you!!!

It's her first show and more than anything I just want her to have lots of fun! Smile

If she isn't enjoying it, there is no sense of doing it... right????
